Lend me your ear?

I have news to share!

I've begun narrating contemporary science fiction stories for one of my very favorite podcasts, StarShipSofa. I've read about half a dozen thus far, and today my first narration went live. It's a reading of Elizabeth Bear's short story "And the Deep Blue Sea," and it's available here or via iTunes under StarShipSofa.

(Since this narration, I've invested in a new microphone setup, so my other readings sound a bit crisper.)

Please check it out - and the rest of the podcast installments for StarShipSofa, as well - if you're interested. Thanks!

In other news, I was thrilled to learn that The Magic Ring was named a "Notable Novel of 2006" in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 2007 (edited by Ellen Datlow, Kelly Link, and Gavin Grant). Woohoo! Thanks to the editors, and high fives to valancourtbooks and nekrokedeia!

I am looking forward to hearing a longer piece than your little sample a few weeks ago. You have an excellent reading voice. :)

As for the news about "The Magic Ring" that is worth a happy dance!

*checks around office for witnesses*

You must feel so great to be such a big part of bringing it back to contemporary readers.

Aw, thank you so much! Your encouragement about recording my reading helped me to consider doing this, as a matter of fact. :) And happy dances are always appreciated! *hugs*

I listened to your reading of And the Deep Blue Sea on the train back from London last night - you did a fantastic job! The author must be chuffed to bits.

Oh wow - you've totally made my day! Thank you so much. I really like the new microphone better, so hopefully the next readings of mine will sound much crisper. I really appreciate your listening. Thank you!
