This conference is keeping me super busy, but I just had to say hello and post a couple of quick things...

* My latest segment on StarShipSofa went up today and is a discussion of the genre ancestors of Agents Mulder and Scully of The X-Files -- in other words, a whirlwind tour of the history of science fiction investigators in literature and film. It begins about 13 minutes into the podcast. You can download it here, listen to it streaming here, or get it via iTunes under "StarShipSofa."

* I am deeply gratified by Jeff Carlson's kind review of my dramatic reading of his story "Frozen Sky" on StarShipSofa. I don't know about the accent question, but I am delighted for my narration to be called "cool, poised, and totally hot," not to mention "hands-down superior"! Thank you, Mr. Carlson!

* Two remarkable people whose works have greatly affected and moved me over the years are gone. They will be missed.
R.I.P. Pauline Baynes (1922-2008)
R.I.P. Alexander Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008)

I hope all of you are well. I'll catch you on the flip side! Back to the conference...

Greetings from nearby! I hope the weather continues to hold out while you're here -- it's not often we see blue skies and sun in the summer! Have fun in the Mitten-state!

Thanks so much! :) It was absolutely gorgeous. The days were clear and we had some beautiful thunderstorms at night. It was lovely seeing the lightning over Lake Michigan!

I'll definitely give you cool, poised and totally hot. British however makes me wish I were at home so I could go listen to it right away. I've gotta hear this! ;)

LOL! I have no idea about the accent comment. I don't hear it! But I am happy that he liked the reading. :) Thank you so much for your ongoing support and encouragement - it means a lot! :)

Hi to you in Michigan!

Weird. You sound like a highly intelligent woman who was Sooner born and Sooner bred to me (almost a contradiction, I know. What? I have to say stuff like that -- I'm a Texan. They'll take away my drivers license or something if I'm not mean to Oklahoma. Actually, I am a Sooner fan, but don't let anyone else know.) Now the guy who runs the podcast...he has a RIDICULOUSLY British-sounding accent. Where's he from anyway?

But you are very nice on the ears! Keep up the good work, and I hope everything is alright up there.

Ha! I sound rather Oklahoman to my ears, as well. And I will not retaliate by picking on Texas, I'll have you know. *wink* (I have to be nice to Sooner fans, even if they're fans only in secret.) Thanks for your kind words, and thanks for listening! I believe Tony (from the podcast) is from Newcastle. I know he's a Geordie, at any rate, and classifies his accent as such. I hope all's going well with you, and you're gearing up for a great semester!
