Bagginses, U.N.C.L.E., and LJ

* Happy birthday to Bilbo and Frodo Baggins! Today is the anniversary of the Long-Expected Party celebrating Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday and Frodo's coming of age in The Lord of the Rings. My thoughts are with the Lómelindi Smial of the Tolkien Society and everyone else who will be celebrating the Baggins Birthdays. Also on this day, according to the Appendices of The Lord of the Rings, 99-year-old Samwise Gamgee rode out from Bag End for the final time. He was last seen in Middle-Earth by his daughter Elanor, to whom he presented the Red Book. According to tradition, he then went to the Grey Havens and passed over the Sea, last of the Ringbearers. Cheers for the Hobbits!

* Happy anniversary to The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which premiered 45 years ago tonight on the NBC network! If you haven't read st_crispin's wonderful essay "Everything I Ever Needed To Know About Life, I Learned From U.N.C.L.E.," be sure to check it out here.

* Lastly, tomorrow will mark the fifth anniversary of my keeping this blog. Many thanks to my dear friend thrihyrne, who inspired me to begin this LiveJournal in the first place, and to all of you, my friends new and old, for sharing these years with me.

Thanks! :) It's my LJ's birthday, actually, but hey - I think the more birthdays to celebrate, the better! LOL.

How I loved The Man from UNCLE! I can still remember clearly the first time I watched it and the camera did a close up on David McCallum and I fell hopelessly in love! Wow, hard to imagine it's been 45 years. Thanks for the link to the essay!

And a happy birthday to the Baggines, Bilbo and Frodo, and best love to Samwise, who joined them over the Sea on this day.

I hadn't thought about The Man from UNCLE for years. Thank you for reminding me. I watched it religiously as a kid. My friends and I were divided over which UNCLE agent we loved. It was Ilya all the way for me. Once the Girl from UNCLE started, in my head I was April Dancer and I now realise that I started to compose fan fiction where April's story lines entwined with those of the men. Of course, I didn't even know what fan fiction was back then but, boy did I have fun with it.

My pleasure! I love your story of composing April Dancer fan fiction that crossed over with Napoleon and Illya's stories. :) You were ficcing before ficcing was cool, bay-bee!

Happy LJ birthday! Good thing K was so pushy, or we would never have met. ;)

LOL! I hadn't seen this. Thanks for the heads up. Wow, way to be coherent (not!). That teaches me to do an interview when I'm sick and medicated. ;)
