Happy Wednesday!

Hi everyone! I'm back from a fantastic time at StellarCon. Alas, I managed to pick up the "con crud" while I was enjoying the great programming, so now I'm a bit under the weather. I hope to catch up with everyone soon.

* My most recent StarShipSofa "Looking Back on Genre History" segment, which discusses the long tradition of Frankenstein adaptations on stage (in honor of the new play currently at the National Theatre), is now available in the latest episode of the podcast. You can download it or listen to it here. If you listen, I hope you enjoy. (A full list of my past podcast segments, with links, is available here.)

* Happy birthday to lovefromgirl and emerdavid, and happy early birthday to artwhisperer. May each of you enjoy a great day and a wonderful year to come!

March is the month of expectation,
The things we do not know,
The Persons of Prognostication
Are coming now.
We try to sham becoming firmness,
But pompous joy
Betrays us, as his first betrothal
Betrays a boy.

Just been conning myself lately and it's easy to see how the crud gets in. There's something exhausting about all that fun.

Most definitely! I'm still sick, as a matter of fact. :( But it was worth it. It sounded like PCON was a great time, too!

Thanks so much for the link! I have such mixed feelings about this. Wow. Poor, poor Del Toro: first The Hobbit, now this. But if he couldn't do it his way, I guess it's better not to do it at all.

I enjoyed hearing your take on the history of Frankenstein stage adaptations. I especially liked that Shelley's father was interested in the financial success a stage adaptation could bring. Not exactly what parents think nowadays when they hear "theatre," is it?

Here in Chicago, hipster wunderkind Sean Graney adapted a promenade version of Frankenstein from the novel and other source material (including the Karloff movie). Chicago was also recently treated to the world premiere of Hideous Progeny, which explored the night on which Frankenstein was written, to good reviews.

Also, I now have my ticket for the 17th! Four-hour drive, here I come!

Thank you so much for your kind words! And also for the links. I'm thinking of doing a separate one on that night that gave birth to Frankenstein (and The Vampyre, etc.), and that would be a perfect time to mention Hideous Progeny. I really appreciate the links and the heads up. I bet the Graney promenade version was fascinating to see!

I'm so excited about the 17th, I may explode. I'm with you, though, about the locations. I don't know why Charlotte didn't have it here (it is the second largest city in the whole multi-state region). I don't have quite as long a drive as you, but it's still several hours. I have no doubt it will be worth it, though!

I look forward to comparing notes!
