Halloween Countdown, Day 8

* TastyTrix's mouth-watering blog is all about world cuisines, travel and restaurants, and delicious recipes. For the Halloween season, the fabulous Trix is posting "Serial Killer Suppers," which she describes as "a weekly series in which I will feature a notable meal of a notorious killer. I'm excited, as the series combines two of the things I love most in the world: food and murder. (Say it with me, Hitchcock style: MUH-deh.)" Check out the first post in the series here: "Schnitzel, Fried Potatoes, and White Wine: the Last Meal of the Dusseldorf Ripper."

* Have you seen the new Penguin Horror editions, selected and introduced by Guillermo del Toro? There's more about them here. The cover artwork is stunning. (Thanks to wellinghall.)

* Now I invite you to enjoy a fantastic rendition of "This Is Halloween" (from The Nightmare Before Christmas) performed by The Dapper Dans. (Thanks to witchcat07.)

"A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night."
- J.M. Barrie, The Little Minister (1891)

YES, I saw those books. The covers are textured and the page edges are black and they are so gorgeous. I fondled them and wept over them and put them back in the display, since if I have one I'd have to have them all and I have the brokes right now. I then promptly went over and bought a bunch of the $1-$3 cheapies I posted about. :P

I definitely need to fondle these in person. I didn't realize the covers were textured, too! Wow. The black page edges really make the artwork pop. Amazing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's smitten with those book covers. The black page edges really set off the artwork beautifully.

Isn't that a great quote? I'm pleased you liked it, too.

Um... Am I the only one who's slightly disturbed by this?

Yep, I think slightly disturbing was exactly what she was going for. (I imagined Alfred Hitchcock delivering that line in his dry "I'm not joking, but really I am, or am I?" voice.)

That performance is fantastic!!!!! Loved it; thank you for sharing.
Have you read GdT's vampire books? They're on my list, but I haven't read them yet.

I haven't yet, I'm sorry to say. Like you, I've got them on my list.

You're welcome. :)

And that was a great quote. Having not read anything of Barrie other than Peter Pan, it's not what I would expect of him.
