various & sundry, plus a plea for advice

First of all, happy birthday to the wonderful vaklam. Best wishes, and may you have many, many more!

Second, happy Serenity day to all of you fellow Browncoats. No power in the 'verse can stop us! If you haven't heard it yet, check out "I'm Gonna See Serenity." It's the perfect song for the day.

Third, FYI, registration for the Past Watchful Dragons C.S. Lewis event ends tomorrow. Tickets for Glass Hammer's The Inconsolable Secret concert and David Payne's "An Evening With C.S. Lewis" performance will remain on sale through October 21, but registration for the conference itself, and discounted tickets to the Lord of the Rings Symphony, will no longer be available.

Here's a new banner, in case anyone would like to share the love:

And last, a plea for advice. I have been increasingly disappointed with my cell phone service ever since AT&T bought out my previous provider. So now I'm shopping around and looking to take my business elsewhere. Any recommendations? Many thanks.

And a quote for the day:

"I'm gonna see Serenity
Three times so that it makes lots of money
They took our land, they took our love
Well now they'll take our ticket stubs
I'm gonna see Serenity..."

from "I'm Gonna See Serenity" by Dan Sehane

Heh, I can't get that song out of my head. Of course, it's my own fault, I can't stop playing it either.

LOL! It's catchy, isn't it? In that "continual loop" sort of way...

All I can say is we have t-mobile and we get terrible coverage. I don't know, though, if that's because we have the cheap phones or if it's their coverage area. All I know is, my co-workers can get cell phone calls in the basement where I work, but I can't. And...it looks like my one friend has a similarly cheap phone like I do yet she can get calls. So....I tend to think it's the coverage area and not the phone.

::shrug::
Sorry if that's not very helpful. I'd go with someone else but t-mobile is cheap and I don't want the hassle of changing providers.

That's very helpful, actually. I really appreciate the heads up. T-mobile will not be on my list! I know what you mean about the hassles of changing providers. I've been perturbed for a while, but only this week did the hassle of staying with them finally outweigh the hassle of leaving. Sheesh.

I've been happy with Verizon - Everyone in my immediate family is on it so we all talk free, whenever. If you got Verizon, we could talk free anytime! And then we would have to quit our jobs and abandon our friends and family because WE WOULD NEVER STOP TALKING. ;-)

ROFLOL! No doubt!!! Is the world ready for us to be in constant phone communication? ;) Seriously, thanks for the recommendation. Verizon was one of the first I thought I'd investigate, and now it's at the top of my list. If I end up with them, I'll have to check to see if there's any special "kickback" you get for getting a friend to sign up. Thanks so much!

T-Mobile doesn't have coverage comparable to Verizon, but I did want to put a plug in for their people. We have gone to the T-Mobile store in Shopryland over and over again with just random questions about how to make things work and how to sync this or that, and they are without question the most helpful and friendly cell phone employees we have ever dealt with.

That's very helpful, too - I really appreciate the information. There's a lot to be said for good customer service. Thanks!

We had AT&T which wasn't too bad just so long as you didn't need any customer service. *rolls eyes* But when they sold out to Cingular in our area and then Cingular passed us to Suncom things went from reasonably ok to intollerable. Suncom was such a mess that we spent endless hours dealing with them and were ultimately released from our contract without penalty. After that we went to Cingular who has good coverage in our area, but I begin to despair at the state of customer service in this industry. Is anyone up to the challenge? I have heard complaints about Verizon and Alltel customer service, also. Good luck! And if you find the right provider, please share!

Yikes! Your story sounds a lot like mine. Thanks for the feedback! If I do find a great provider - which does sound like an endangered species, doesn't it? - I'll be sure to let you know!

I've already seen it...*grins* And I don't mean the preview. It rocked.

Let me know how the cel thing goes, I've been thinking of changing myself. I'm with Cricket, and while it's inexpensive, I want a phone that I can take out of my local area.

A happy geek indeed! Go you! Please watch Mirrormask several times (LOL!), because it needs to do well enough to come to Nashville. I'm so frustrated it isn't playing here! I'd be there. And have a fabulous time at The Witching Hour!

That song is awesome.

And I already know I'm going to see the big damn movie (which is amazing) again at least once. And I'm dragging friends to see it too.

Our big damn heroes made a film'
