"their will shall overshadow thee"

There is an interesting article here about how Toronto is investing in the forthcoming The Lord of the Rings on Stage. I'll be in Toronto in July to participate in The Gathering of the Fellowship, and I look forward to seeing this performance myself.

Today's Halloween-related quote is from Edgar Allan Poe:

Thy soul shall find itself alone
'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tomb-stone;
Not one, of all the crowd, to pry
Into thine hour of secrecy.

Be silent in that solitude,
Which is not loneliness–for then
The spirits of the dead, who stood
In life before thee, are again
In death around thee, and their will
Shall overshadow thee; be still.

The night, though clear, shall frown,
And the stars shall not look down
From their high thrones in the Heaven
With light like hope to mortals given,
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever.

Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish,
Now are visions ne'er to vanish;
From thy spirit shall they pass
No more, like dew-drop from the grass.

The breeze, the breath of God, is still,
And the mist upon the hill
Shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken,
Is a symbol and a token.
How it hangs upon the trees,
A mystery of mysteries!

"Spirits of the Dead," Edgar Allan Poe

I hadn't realized the musical was opening so soon! I have to admit that I was horrified when I first heard that a Lord of the Rings musical was being produced. But now I'm curious, and look forward to reading reviews.

I'm curious, too! I'm especially intrigued because it is a musical, and I have a soft spot for Tolkien-inspired music. There's always the chance it will be horrifying (!), but it will be interesting to find out about it, either way.

Awesome! You got a movie with Viggo and everything. :) "Night on Bald Mountain" is my very favorite part of the film Fantasia, by the way.

Good point indeed! There have been so many Tolkien themed albums I've enjoyed so much, I can't wait to see what they do with it. And if it's awful, well, I have the other albums to console me! LOL. But it may be wonderful, who knows? You're right about the length, though. I wonder how they'll manage that.

Great Poe poem. Man, that's an unfortunate collection of words. "Poe poem".

Something almost as scary are his negative reviews of other people's works. WoooOOOOooo. =)
