"Everything is becoming science fiction."

Happy belated birthday to faramirgirl! I hope you had a wonderful day, and your year to come is the best yet!

Cory Doctorow's latest commentary at Locus Online is worth a read: "Science Fiction is the Only Literature People Care Enough About to Steal on the Internet."

And there's an interesting new book now available: Star Wars on Trial, edited by David Brin and Matthew Woodring Stover. Subtitled Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Debate the Most Popular Science Fiction Films of All Time, the book consists of alternating essays by Brin and Stover and numerous contributors respectively attacking and defending the Star Wars films on various issues, the central theme being "Is George Lucas a hero for bringing science fiction to a mass audience or a villain who doesn't understand the genre he's working for?"

Everything is becoming science fiction. From the margins of an almost invisible literature has sprung the intact reality of the 20th century.
J.G. Ballard, "Fictions of Every Kind"

Well, considering the vast success he had in bringing SF to a mass audience, I'd say he understands the genre fairly well. The first (in terms of time) movie in particular IS the genre in a nutshell.

What the question maybe should be: "Does he understand the fans of the genre?" And the answer to that one is resoundingly NO.

My pleasure! :)
I'm so grateful for your earlier post on Lady in the Water. We saw it yesterday and really liked it. And you're right about Paul Giamatti being a tear-jerker. What a performance!

You're most welcome! Thanks for friending me in the first place. :)

Yes! We're in the same boat, then. I've got lots of catching up to do, as well. I look forward to reading...!

Ok I am confused earlier today i saw a post with some great song lists and downloads with your music list for The Magic Ring, LOTR, Harry Potter and H.P Lovecraft, I said I wanted to be added to your filter list, but now even the post is gone. Please put me back on I at least want to see the songs, and music you have picked, I love most of your choices from the past
