"His star trek will go on forever."

Happy belated birthday to roo2. I hope you had a marvelous day, and will have many, many more!

Today is also the birthday of Gene Roddenberry, the father of Star Trek and pioneer of science fiction television. Three cheers for the Great Bird of the Galaxy!

In his honor, a quote for the day:

Beyond
The rim of the star-light,
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight.
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star-woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never.
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me.

-Gene Roddenberry, "Theme from Star Trek"

I have a friend whose spouse was horrifiedly fascinated when I told him there were unused lyrics to the Star Trek theme. He asked if I knew them, and I responded (unwisely) by singing them.

Now he makes me sing them every time we visit.

Well, at least it's not the Ewok song, so I count my blessings. :D

ROFLOL! You can't "Yub Nub" properly unless you have a row of stormtrooper helmets to play for percussion!

Now that I think of it, that's rather creepy...

Heee... true!

You know, I always loved that the Ewoks were not just cute teddy bears, but were a real aboriginal people with their own culture which included eating outsiders and taking heads as trophies! Hardcore stuff, that! It sort of justified their existence for me.

Exactly! Well said. They even had little kamikaze Ewoks who flung themselves at the Imperial Walkers in what were obviously suicide missions to save their world. They were cute, but they were also unifies and completely committed to the defense of their homeland. Hardcore indeed!

I've read the lyrics before, but I've never heard anyone sing them. Is there a recording out there somewhere?

Well, then, she'll just have to preserve it on vinyl tape CD!

I thought I remembered hearing something about Nichelle doing this. Obviously I didn't connect it to an actual recording, because I am silly.
