"the month of expectation"

I have a few notes to share today:

* Beginning publication in Fall 2007, The Journal of Horror Studies is self-described as "the first on-going, serious academic study of the horror genre, fusing research in film, television, literature, computer games historical and cultural studies."

* SFSite has announced the results of the Readers' Choice Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of 2006 poll.

* Speaking of the SFSite, I highly recommend the new "Overlooked or Overhyped?" review column by Neil Wash.

* Here's a new article for Tolkien lovers: "Inside the Hobbit House: Appreciating a modern-day cottage based on mythical literature" from FineHomebuilding.com.

* Please support metal_aria and his band. Click here to vote for Fatalis on RockMyMonkey.com.

March is the month of expectation,
The things we do not know,
The Persons of Prognostication
Are coming now.
We try to sham becoming firmness,
But pompous joy
Betrays us, as his first betrothal
Betrays a boy.

- Emily Dickinson, XLVIII

What a beautiful little cottage - and just for a personal museum to Tolkien? Wow! That is dedication. I wonder if we know the owner? I would move right in today and wouldn't change a thing except painting the door green. Maybe the fireplace could use some work for my taste, too - but otherwise it is perfection!

I'm with you - I'm ready to pull up the U-Haul and unpack my things. :) The fireplace could use a little work, true enough, but that library is just perfect! All I'd need is some mushrooms and ale, and I'd be all set. :)

Thank you for the links--especially the Sci-Fi poll. I know none of the books that won, apart from Fragile Things, which I read and enjoyed very much. Can you recommend one for me (No Fantasy, but SciFi)? I still have 35 books to read for my 50 books-1 year challenge...

He, mind if I add you as a friend?

What a wonderful challenge to take! I admire that. I'd be more than happy to make a suggestion or two: are you looking specifically for recent science fiction books? (Of those on that list that I've read, I'd recommend Vinge's book. But there are other SF books I'd recommend before any of these.)

You might also be interested in the ongoing Top Science Fiction Books page, which offers a statistical survey of sci-fi literary awards, noted critics' choices and popular polls.

Please do friend me! Thanks. I'll friend you back, if that's okay with you.

Cool, let's be friends!

Recent SciFi books will do--I got some of the classics and my colleague has about a ton of good older stuff for me in store. But I'll also check out the site you just recommended! Thank you!
