Happy November!

Happy November, everyone!

I will be quiet over the next few days, as I'm in the final stretch of preparing my manuscript for Tecumseh: A Life for my editor, as well as teaching. Here are a few news items I wanted to share with you in the meantime:

* The October 2007 issue of Common-Place included an interesting article: "Undisciplined Reading: Finding surprise in how we read" by Matthew P. Brown.

* Heren Istarion has announced the nominees for the 2007 Imperishable Flame Awards, and the voting polls are open. The categories for the awards are Tolkien/Inklings Scholarship 2006/07, Tolkien Fan Appreciation 2006/07, and Tolkien Inspired Creation(s) 2006/07. Vote today on the right side of the main page!

* Huge congratulations to the Cherokee National Youth Choir! Considered one of the top Native language choirs in America, the Cherokee National Youth Choir has been awarded the 2007 Native American Music Award for Best Gospel or Inspirational Recording. The choir will take part in the 2007 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, during which they will stop at Harold's Square for a one-minute televised performance to be broadcast live on NBC.

And for fun:

Thanks to everyone who comments in my LJ!

The wild gander leads his flock through the cool night,
Ya-honk! he says, and sounds it down to me like an invitation:
The pert may suppose it meaningless, but I listen closer,
I find its purpose and place up there toward the November sky.

- Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass, 1855, "I Celebrate Myself"

Ooh, I see I'm going to have to work on my stats here. ::calculating look::

Also, thank you as always for the Halloween month 'o posts! I enjoyed them so much, although I can SEE I did not post nearly enough. But know that they were an absolute delight!

Oh, I'm so thrilled you liked the Halloween posts! Thanks so much for reading them. I must apologize, because I am the world's worst when it comes to commenting. Must. Do. Better!

I am so happy that I found you on LJ. The 'Net is a better place for having you in it!

When you have 8 tentacles, you can type a lot faster than you land-based monkey-offshoots. ;)

LOL! Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments. I can't tell you how thrilled I am you're on LJ.

By the way, I can't remember if I told you, but I won the icon skillz of curtana in the Sweet Charity auction, and last month she made, among other things, Lion in Winter icons specifically to my request. You can see the LiW ones here.

Of course, we already knew you da man. And da squid. But hey, it's nice to have an excuse to tell you "You're #1!" anyway. :) Thanks, my friend, for making LJ a great place to be.

And I just have to say that I've missed reading your LJ. You bring so many luscious bits of life/creativity/fun/brainfood together. Totally ♥ it!

How very cool about the choir. I would love to hear them.

Hope you had a good Halloween. The potluck picnic at the Park was a lot of fun last night. Perfect weather and really pretty out. Wish you had been there!

Nov. 2nd, 2007 11:40 am (UTC)
I'm so excited that the choir will get TV time in the parade. They are amazing. I had a good Halloween - I just wish I could've been two places at once, so I could've joined you on your potluck picnic. (What a GREAT idea!) I'm so glad it went well.

Hey, you don't by any chance ever make it out to ConCarolinas, do you?
Nov. 7th, 2007 08:23 pm (UTC)
I haven't made it out to that Con ever, but remind us again closer to its taking place. Its a long drive, but might be possible. It looks like fun and would be great of course to see you!

I'm very glad to hear you had a good Halloween too. It sure came and went all too quick.
