Happy 2008!

I wish all of you a happy 2008!

In thinking about the promise and challenge of facing a new year, and all of the resolutions that seem to come with the change of the calendar, I keep returning to a favorite quote. So here it is. I have quoted it before in the past, but I think it's worth repeating. It represents my hopes for the new year, and my very best wishes for my friends, family, and world.

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.

Trouble no one about their religion;
respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.

Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.

Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.

Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
even a stranger, when in a lonely place.

Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food
and for the joy of living;
if you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.

Abuse no one and no thing,
for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die,
be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death,
so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time
to live their lives over again in a different way;
sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

- attributed to Tecumseh (1768?-1813), Shawnee Nation

Hello, Amy! :) Dropping by to wish you and yours a wonderful New Year, and to let you know, I will have your signed copy of The Sound of Horror in the mail very soon. I am so sorry for the delay! We are snowed in once again, and I'm having fun, this winter, getting to town to mail out parcels and other bits.

Best Wishes!~

Thanks for the New Year's wishes! :) Please don't apologize about the mailing; I'm just so thrilled that I won it, and I'll be happy to receive it whenever it arrives. I hope you're staying warm and safe through all your winter weather. Take care, and happy 2008!

I'm so glad you like it, too! It's one that really stays with me. (I'm still laughing about your customer service story. So, do you have any courses for Gobbledegook or Mermish?)

Hey, that's the 3rd time I've been treated to that quote (and still love it so much - it always brings tears to my eyes; it reminds me of my father, who died in 2003) and this means that I've known you for over 3 years now. That's glorious. :)

Aw!!! *huge hugs* You know, my whole LJ experience is worth it just for having been able to meet you. I look forward to another three years... and another... of geeking out with you, my friend.
