"The month of May was come"

Happy May Day, Beltane, Walpurgis Night, etc.!

And happy early birthday to angelinehawkes, with best wishes for many happy returns of the day.

* Now that it's May, my thoughts turn to ConCarolinas. Will I see any of you there? I hope so!

* Also, I want to give much love to Black Phoenix Trading Post's Lovecraft-inspired limited edition series: Miskatonic Valley Junior Baseball Association Team Gear: The Innsmouth Guppies vs. the Dunwich Whippoorwills. Check it out: "Due to the unforeseen consequences of last winter's Rite of the Black Goat, we have been temporarily downsized to two teams. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the Kingsport Moonbeasts and the Aylesbury Zoogs who are currently resting in Arkham Sanitarium." Ha!

And a quote for the day:

"The month of May was come, when every lusty heart beginneth to blossom, and to bring forth fruit; for like as herbs and trees bring forth fruit and flourish in May, in likewise every lusty heart that is in any manner a lover, springeth and flourisheth in lusty deeds. For it giveth unto all lovers courage, that lusty month of May... Nowadays, men can not love seven nights but they must have all their desires: that love may not endure by reason... Right so fareth love nowadays, soon hot, soon cold: this is no stability. But the old love was not so; men and women could love together seven years and no licours lusts were between them, and then was love, truth, and faithfulness; and lo, in like wise was used love in King Arthur's day."
- Malory, Le Morte D'Arthur

One of my Gwyddon students made it a project this year to make a soap and a balm for each of the Solar High Days. Am squeaky clean after Beltaine soap and am properly anointed in Beltaine balm this morning! BRING ON THE BUNNIES!!

I started reading the first line of your quote for the day:

"The month of May was come, when every lusty heart beginneth to blossom..."

and immediately thought of this song from Camelot -

"It's May, it's May!
The lusty month of May..."

then was amused to see the quote is from Malory. Learner and Lowe must have read Le Morte D'Arthur when producing the show. I know T. H. White quotes Malory a lot in The Once and Future King. I used to read that book about once a year. I ordered Malory once from the library and ended up with the french version, then gave up.

Where did you find this quote?

"It's May; it's May!
The month of 'Yes, you may.'"

LOL! I saw Camelot when I was an ever-so-small little girl, shown on a huge screen on the lawn of a gorgeous art museum in my hometown one spring night with my parents, and I remember being amazed at how magical it was.

I got this quote from The Arthurian Book of Days: The Greatest Legend in the World Retold Throughout the Year by Caitlin and John Matthews, which uses a slightly different translation, I think, than my copy of Malory.

Are the dimensions of the MVJBA strike zone even more non-Euclidian than that used for Major League Baseball?

Indeed they are. And the national anthem is always sung by a member of the Esoteric Order of Dagon.

PS. They have to halt the game every now and then, too, when they catch Brown Jenkins streaking across the field.

For many years one of our grand dame patrons would enter the library on the first of May and announce at the top of her voice:

Hurray! Hurray!
The Month of May!
Outdoor lusting*
Begins Today!

Oh, Malory, you dewy-eyed soul. Love the quote. :)

Lovely to have you back! And you realise there's been a dearth of VA pics in recent times? The universe is falling out of alignment!

:D I'm so glad you like it, too.

Oh my, I must atone for my recent lack of VA pics!!! Thanks for alerting me to my inexcusable neglect. I realize the world is a colder, crueler place without regular doses of the world's most beautiful Boston terrier! :)

The MVJBA isn't the only cult run sports organization:
