Podcasting and Hunger Games News

Happy Monday!

New publication/podcast news! Onirismes is a bilingual webzine (English - French) dedicated to publishing short fiction and poetry that belong in the fields of speculative and fantastic literature (fantasy, science fiction, and all kinds of interstitial experiments). The first issue is now available as both a print work and a podcast here. I'm very happy to say I narrated Claude Mamier's haunting story "She in Ashes" for this debut podcast. I hope you'll listen and enjoy, as well as check out all the terrific material Onirismes has for genre fans.

Also, I wanted to follow up on my previous post about local filming of the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games. As it turns out, we were right! The Henry River Mill Village will be used for District 12. The old homes will be the homes of District 12 residents, and the abandoned general store (see below) will be the bakery owned by Peeta Mellark's father.

Abandoned "Company Town" 5

You can read more (and see additional pictures from the current site as it's being prepared) from yesterday's local paper here.

“Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to…to show the Capitol they don’t own me. That I’m more than just a piece in their Games”
- Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Love the old general store as the bakery! The village will be perfect and it looks like the preparations are adding to the atmosphere. Can't wait for the movie:) So glad you recommended these books.

I'm so glad you read and liked the books!

Isn't it perfect? I love the picture from the newspaper that shows the wash on the line. I'm so excited to see how this translates to the silver screen!

That town is PERFECT. Wow. I just got the shivers, a little. District 12, yes.

I'm so glad you think so, too! It's a really haunting little area, and the moment I heard it had been chosen as a film location, I just knew it must be District 12. I'm so glad to see this confirmed. I can't wait to see how it translates to the screen. It should be amazing.

I am totally psyched this is in my back yard. It looks perfect for District 12. I may make a road trip up there sometime this summer once I have Ryan read all the books.

Amy, how do you feel about the casting of Lenny Kravitz as Cinna? To be honest, I'm not totally thrilled. He wasn't the Cinna I saw in my head, but I may just be biased.

I'm so glad you think it's perfect, too! I got a chill when I discovered they were using this spot. Give a shout if you want to meet up if you come out this way.

Lenny Kravitz doesn't have the look of Cinna that I had in my head, either. I'll admit that, while I'm familiar with his music, I don't know much about his acting, though. So I don't really know what I think. The other casting has been so spot on, I'm inclined to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt at this point. Here's hoping! *fingers crossed*
