Halloween Countdown, Day 16

These photos capture the same remarkable grave, the Montanari family tomb at the Certosa di Bologna in northern Italy, in two different seasons/states. The Certosa di Bologna formerly was a Carthusian monastery, which was founded in 1334 and suppressed in 1797. In 1801, it became the city’s Monumental Cemetery, visited and praised by the likes of Lord Byron.

"You are a little soul carrying around a corpse."
- Epictetus

Gosh, she doesn't look happy to be dead either, does she... not a grave I'd like to come across on a dark foggy night, to be honest - she looks like it would only need the slightest excuse...! *g*

Seriously! She's far more effective as a guard than a gargoyle, I'd say.

Good question! I wouldn't want to meet her on a dark night, in a cemetery or anywhere else!

I believe she's the only figure like that on the tomb. The cleared/cleaned photo is far more recent than the vine-covered one, so I'm guessing it represents the current, more manicured view.

She's got way more personality than most statues. She looks seriously ticked off. I like her. :D

I agree! I think she could hold her own against weeping angels any day of the week. ;)
