Happy 162nd birthday, Sherlock Holmes!

Happy 162nd birthday to the Great Detective himself, Sherlock Holmes. May you party like it's 1895!

I went to see Sherlock at the theatre last night. OMG it was so awesome! I'm really glad I saw it on the big screen. Today, I pre-ordered the DVD from Amazon. Such an amazingly wonderful show.

The Abominable Bride
(I tried to post a comment earlier, but LiveJournal marked it as Spam, so here is my second try.)
What were your thoughts on The Abominable Bride? I still can't decide whether it was brilliant or ridiculous. Or perhaps some mix of the two...

Re: The Abominable Bride
I totally understand both perspectives, but as for me, I loved it. I "read" the Victorian part as purely a figment of modern-day Sherlock's mind, a way to work through the problem of Moriarty. (How does someone blow off the back of her -- or his -- head and survive? The answer: no one does.) The idea that Moriarty is only alive in so far as Sherlock is keeping him alive through his obsession really worked for me, as did the idea that it's John Watson, ultimately, who can solve the problem. A few parts were a bit over the top, true, but so many others were rewarding. All of the Easter eggs for Conan Doyle canon lovers and direct quotes from the stories tickled me (as always). This felt to me, more than any of the other installments, like an unabashed love letter to ACD. Have you come to any conclusions? (I'll admit it took some rewatchings to decide my opinion.)
